NGO “DĒMS”
“Dēms” (Greek: demos, δῆμος – populace of a democracy) is an ancient Greek word that denotes a group of people who can in some sense be considered a single whole, united by common interests, goals and civil rights.
2004
Founded
NGO “Dēms” was founded on December 14, 2004 as the NGO “Youth Club “Dēms””. The main goal was to represent and defend the interests of young people.
2014
Changes
In 2014, the name of the organization was changed to NGO “Dēms”, because over time and with changing socio-economic conditions, the association has transformed into an organization that focuses on residents of all ages.
- to carry out public benefit activities related to creating an accessible environment, representing the interests of people of all ages and defending their rights to active participation in public and social processes;
- to carry out public benefit activities to promote access to lifelong learning;
- to carry out public benefit activities to promote sustainable development;
- to contribute to improving the quality of life in society.
The true essence of the association is about living in a local community – together with
young and not so young people, both as volunteers and as members of the association, and
by getting involved in charity events, projects and implementing your own ideas!
If you have an idea, come! If you want to belong to something, come! If you want to be
socially active, come! If you want to raise the topic/area/problem, and no one doesn’t do it,
come!
Membership of the NGO: Member of the Board – Anita Birzniece plus 14 official members
who pay a membership fee – 10 EUR per year, write projects, get involved in projects
created by others, support the administrative work of the DEMOcrats. At least another 14
like-minded people who get involved or implement their ideas through the DEMOcrats.
By the way, not all members live in Gulbene. But this does not prevent us from working and
starting to implement projects at the Latvian and European levels. The whole world is not
covered yet, Come! This is your chance!
